Under Thai copyright law, copyright protection arises automatically once an original work is created and published or otherwise made available to the public, in accordance with the general principles of copyright law.

Nevertheless, the recordation of copyright with the Department of Intellectual Property is not a mandatory requirement under Thai law. Consequently, such recordation is merely an optional administrative procedure that may be undertaken by the copyright owner or creator to establish official evidence of copyright ownership before the competent governmental authority.
